NAMHO 2010 is being hosted by the South Gloucestershire Mines Research Group (SGMRG), Hades Caving Club and Friends of Ram Hill Colliery (FoRHC).
We are delighted to be hosting the NAHMO 2010 Conference in South Gloucestershire and look forward to welcoming you and making sure your needs and interests are catered for. Bristol's position (up to the end of C18)as the second largest UK city was due to a large extent to its mineral wealth, specifically the easily accessible local coal and this is reflected in the theme for this year's NAMHO conference "Fuelling the Industrial Revolution" . We have sought to ensure that most our walks and talks fall within this theme in our programme.
Whilst our area has a rich mining heritage and has been a major producer of Coal, Iron and Celestine our choice of local underground visits is limited. Within South Gloucestershire these are limited to local stone mines, so we are also offering underground trips to the adjacent Bath, West Cotswolds, Forest of Dean and Mendip mining areas.
